How conversations grow on Seed (Beta)

One of the core ideas behind Seed is that conversations can grow over time. Every Post begins as a Spark. As more people participate, return, and find value in the discussion, it may naturally progress through different growth stages. - Spark Every new Post starts here. Sometimes a Spark stays exactly that—and that's perfectly fine. Not every conversation needs to become something bigger. - Conversation Once people begin replying and engaging, a Spark becomes a Conversation. This tells readers that the Post has become an active discussion rather than a single thought. - Discussion When multiple people actively participate over time, the conversation becomes a Discussion. At this point the topic is no longer just a back-and-forth between two people—it has become something the community is building together. - Reference Some discussions become genuinely useful. People return to them, bookmark them, and continue contributing over several days. These become References—Posts worth coming back to. - Landmark Only a small number of conversations should reach this stage. A Landmark is something the community has continued to find valuable over time. It isn't simply popular—it has become part of the community's shared knowledge. - Trending Trending is separate from the growth stages. A conversation can be Trending because it is receiving lots of recent activity, even if it's still just a Spark. Likewise, an old Landmark may no longer be Trending while remaining one of the community's most valuable conversations. This is only the beginning Seed is currently in beta. The growth algorithm will evolve as the community grows and we'll continue refining it based on real conversations rather than arbitrary popularity metrics. Our goal isn't to reward viral Posts. Our goal is to recognize conversations that genuinely grow. Every conversation starts small.
